Bertha Suarez will end almost 5 decades of banking experience and community service on June 30, 2022.

Weslaco, TX. Bertha Suarez, who has served as Greater State Bank’s Weslaco Branch Manager for the last 5 years, will retire at the end of June. Prior to her time at Greater State Bank, she spent 42 years working with Weslaco area banks.

Suarez dedicated her career to serving the Weslaco area with personalized and experienced banking services, earning her a reputation as a reliable, knowledgeable, and community-minded leader in the RGV banking industry.

“Bertha has been one of Greater State Bank’s most valued employees,” says Robert McGurk, Greater State Bank President and CEO, “because her extensive experience and customer-centric attitude make Greater State Bank’s Weslaco branch a welcoming place to do banking. She is, in many ways, the heart of our Weslaco branch.”

In addition, Suarez has dedicated her life to improving the Weslaco area and has served as a community leader across numerous organizations. Currently, she serves as Board Member of the Knapp Community Care Foundation/Knapp Medical Center Foundation. From 2018 to 2019, she served as that organization’s chair.

Suarez also currently serves on the boards of the John Knox Village of the Rio Grande Valley and Weslaco Crime Stoppers, Inc. and is a member of the Weslaco Rotary Club.

Suarez’ extensive community service has been recognized multiple times through the conferring of awards, including the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year and the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce Director of the Year. In 2004, she also received the Alamo Bank of Texas Paul Marihugh Award.

Suarez will spend her retirement pursuing her passion for football and baseball, spending time with family and friends, and continuing to serve her beloved Weslaco community.
